The year 2005 has been a very productive one for the WINStep technical committee. The version 3 protocol standard was developed, following a series of face to face meetings, in April and July. The version 3 protocol standard is now being actively used by various WINStep members in some real world data exchange projects that should be publicized in 2006.
We've elected a new technical committee to advance the progress in developing a format and protocol standard. The WINStep protocol is now rich enough to represent 'real-world' parts. Major steps forward in usefulness to the Woodworking Industry:
Ability to express the manufacturing operations, such as drilling, routing, cutting, etc.
Ability to represent materials
Ability to carry labeling information
In addition, ability to also include previous job, part and assembly information
Greater extensibility without having to use proprietary extensions, through the use of variables
The Board also approved interoperability testing by the Technical Committee and publication of results between WINSTEP member systems.
Respectfully submitted, Pierre Benard & Ned Brown Co-Chairman's of Winstep Technical Committee
